O'Brien sat across the table, smiling. We've known each other for years, I can barely remember how long, but it must've been over a decade at least. It just started with a snap, and we started our seemingly not quite compatible relationship as friends that easily.
"So... I've got a news for you."
We began hanging out at bars for drinks into wee hours of the morning, talking crap and what nots. We began going out for short trips just because we wanted to shoot a perfect picture of the sun rising in the eastern horizon. And we basically see each other almost everyday, with different activities, majority comprising of dinner and gym.
"Uhuh. Shoot. I'm all ears."
We kept in touch via text messages, short calls and most of the times via live messengers online. As time passes by, we got on with our lives. With our work, our relationships, and our families respectively. But we stood by each other, helping one another should there be any predicaments. We share everything that happened, including the darkest secrets even our mothers did not know. We were basically soul mate, in that sense.
"Promise me you won't be shocked!"
"Bring it on. I don't think I couldn't be able to handle it after what has happened."
And one day, he came to tell me he had been dating my twin sister! It was a surprising news! For the workaholic in us, I'm amazed he could even made time to go out dating with another lady for it was like we were basically hanging out whenever we got free time. Which was, pretty rare, for he's a manager of some sort for the airline company, while I've been running around managing my internationally-recognized designs. And the part of dating my twin sister, even I myself didn't know!
"I'm thinking of proposing. But I want your blessings."
But even after he's been dating, he never treat me less. I was brought to meet his girl as a surprise, and was introduced to her as the boyfriend. God it was so funny that my twin sister looked at us almost with her eyes popped out. But after much explanation, the three of us hang out more and more. And it felt so good that I got closer to my sister as the days passed by.
"Bravo buddy! You've got my blessings!"
"Not unless you become my best man."
"Hahaha. That's the least I could help out buddy!"
"Alrighty! There'll be 4 more guys, of which 2 of them are gay couple. I'm sure you know Kenny and Bernard."
"I'm fine with them, they're really cool people."
"The other two will be Kee Hong and Shawn. Here's their number, you better make sure I get my surprise!"
"Bugger you horny lad!"
And he laughed.

On Empathy this Season
Christmas this year shall be different. I don't know how many of you celebrate this merry celebration, despite many have regarded it all too comercialise, but I'm sure a lot would agree with me it's a day where we all get together with our loved ones and spend the day sitting around lazying, watching the day goes by reminiscing the sweet memories of the past.
At least that was what I planned to do with my parents, until I found out I've got on-calls at the Accident and Emergency department on Christmas day as well as on New Year's day.
But that aside, I should be counting my blessings, because at least I know I could still rush out during the lunch break or dinner break for a short meal with my family and close friends. It's definitely unfair for both my parents who flew over to celebrate this season with me only to find out that I've got a very busy posting, but who could've predicted when they purchased the ticket half a year ago... But then again, all of us know that, we've got each other no matter what no matter how.
Unlike the orphans at Good Samaritan Home who, come Christmas, all they've got are their peers, their brothers and sisters as well as the pastor who run the orphanage. Wherever were their parents, who could've known?
They live in very crowded environment, 6 in a room for the older kids while more than that for the youngers.
They live on charity, heavily depending on the charity recycling bin for the payment of bills, water as well as electricity.
How old were you when you first remember you calling your parents Mum and Dad? When was the last time you ever talked to them properly about life, about the past, about the future? When was the last time you ever hugged your dad or hold your mum's hands? When was the last time you ever thought of your parents even?
For all we know, whatever we try to picture these children are going through are far from what they actually feel. But the least we could do, is to empathy them. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to urge all my readers, to take the first step, and do your part in helping these innocent souls. In the spirit of giving, let's make this year's Christmas a very special one, for you, for me as well as for the kids in Good Samaritan Home.
Find out more information about how you could help on Gratitude's coverage...
Merry Christmas my dear readers! And a happy new year too!

[StoryTeller Ver0.1] Friend
"Thanks a lot man, really. Thanks a lot."
Keith looked at me puzzled, "Huh? What?"
"Like hello? I wonder how come you could be such a bitch. I mean, all along I thought you're a friend! But now I know... you..."
"What are you talking about?"
"What am I talking about? You and I both know that your Economics teacher is my Dad's friend. And we both know that your Economics teacher is such a kiss arse he treats you out whenever you got back home."
"Yes so?"
"Right... So I suppose you must have forgotten that you accidentally spilled some stupid assumptions of yours that I'm gay because I'm friends with some gay bloggers."
"Oooh... what wait, you're not? I thought you are, since you know Benedict and Bryan and the whole bunch of them... And er... I thought..."
"And? Er? You thought... No wait. You just comfortably assumed I am gay like you and you told your teacher that, Papa Medie's son is actually gay. No huh?"
"Err... okay... I'm sorry...??"
"Know what? I think I'm not the least bothered. And I think I won't even bother anymore. So yea, thank you."
"Wait wait, you had problems with your family?"
"Well let's see. What about your dad calling you up at 1 in the morning asking if you like men, and insisted that you admit it so that he can disown you? Or your mum calling you at 8 in the morning and told you she couldn't sleep because she felt she hasn't been doing her part as a mother to raise you up as a son and has been crying for the whole night blaming herself. No wait. You're luckier because you thought it's a smart way to live your life if you actually out yourself to your parents. But in this case, mine as well?"
"Well I mean, I didn't know. And even if I knew, you need to live your life as who you really are."
"Oh come one Keith. If only you knew, you'd have known that I've been happily dating Shirley for the past one year."
"What? How come no one knows? Not even your parents?"
"I was planning to bring her home as a surprise during the my mum's birthday celebration next week. Now thanks to you, I don't think there will be any celebration. In fact, I don't think I have a home to go back to."
"Wait wait... It's that huge a matter? I mean, they really disowned you?"
"I sure hope not. But one thing I'm sure, you and I, we won't talk anymore. And as an ex-friend, here's a piece of advice, don't act as if you're a know-it-all. It's pretty disgusting."
Friends. You never knew who these people are until they proved themselves otherwise.
Have a happy day being fooled today.
Happy April's Fool. teehee
It is by the way, a piece of fictionous writing. Have been having all these imaginations, and really, I don't feel like wasting them. So there you go, I'm telling you some stories, and April first shall be the day I start. I was after all, a storyteller before.
