Putting the puzzles together, perhaps you might see the picture. We were searching for a place for dinner in the big mall, not knowing where to go. So we headed into the first Chinese restaurant that came in view.
This restaurant won the Best Restaurants in Malaysia for 3 consecutive years, since 2009. We thought the food should be quite nice, although sometimes the dishes of another clan might not suit our tastes.
Ambience wise, it was greatly decorated, very classy. The air-conditioning was blowing directly at where we were seated, so we were freaking cold that night. They have multiple bags of high-quality teas neatly arranged on the shelf.
Well, perhaps we ordered way too much for just 4. 5 dishes in total with an additional soup. So it was indeed the very filling.
The fried pork gut with salted pepper was indeed too salty for our liking. But I suppose it makes a good appetizer.
Mum said the long bean with minced pork and preserved olive was the dish lasting the longest on the table. Simply put, it was probably the least nice amongst all the dishes that night.
The baby oyster pancake with scrambled egg was more familiar to us as we had such dishes in the seafood restaurants back in our hometown. Even my friends who visited from West Malaysia said it was special.
I loved the steamed chicken the most. It's steamed chicken, do I need to say more?
But the mixed pork & prawn roll with spice was as good as Mum's CNY spring roll. Very generous portion of prawn and pork with suitable amount of spices which saw the dish finished the fastest.
Finally, the stewed peanuts & lotus root soup with sliced pork turned out to be another of Mum's regular dish. Mum regularly cooks lotus root soup with peanuts, she said she learned it from our aunt who is also a Teochew. Never occurred to her that it was a traditional dish.
Overall, the bills came out to be slightly over 170 bucks. A bit pricey alright, but it was a restaurant... And I was happy we had a dinner together.
