On the Chicken Rice Ball

Here's a big joke. We were in the famous Chicken Rice Ball shop in Jonker Street one weekend as I was craving for some steamed chicken rice. We were lucky that we had a seat upon arrival. We watch the other customers lining up outside the shop one by one, conveying our gratitude that we were early enough.

When the chicken rice balls arrive, we salvaged our lunch like we had not been eating.

And all of a sudden, I had this funny thought.

"Do they serve chicken rice in bowls instead of balls? I prefer to eat them chicken rice in balls rather than balls like this..."

My friend stared at me.

"You're in Malacca for Christ's sake! Chicken Rice Ball is well-known here. And you're telling me you want them serving you chicken rice in bowls?"

But of course, who wouldn't know that Malacca is famous for their Hainanese Steamed Chicken served with rice balls. Head down to the historical city for a bite of them chewy rice balls! You wouldn't miss it. There are only 2 shops selling chicken rice balls on Jonker Street. I have no particular preference, had tried both, tasted the same to me. LOL.

They do serve in normal bowl. Went the last year during public holiday weekend. They limit the number of chicken rice ball that we can order. Insist that we must order half in the form of rice ball and half in the form of bowl

Honestly, I found it unique rather than delicious. Which one is the best stall?

yeah, i prefer to eat rice served in a bowl too. you never know how clean the hands were when they squeezed rice into those balls.

I don't see the point of having the rice ball. You can always try to reverse the process.

i actually prefer the normal ones than the rice balls, they are a bit too wet and mashed for my liking..

Your friend is right. You go there to experience and taste the specialty. That is why you see the long queue. I am sure there are other better chicken rice than those two in Malacca. What kinda balls are u la :)
