I'm not exactly tech savvy. Especially when it comes to all those gadgets and what nots. So when it comes to communicating with friends overseas, the only thing I know would be via MSN or YM. And so, when the brother started to settle down in Prague, my parents communicate with him using Skype.
Therefore, when I went to Taipei last week, mummy was super panicky as to how she could contact me. I was of course quite irritatedly told her that I've applied for a service that the Tourism Board of Taiwan provided, about the local number I could get once I touched down and all. Only then that she was more relaxed, and she asked me to text her straight away once I got my number over there.
And so, when I got the phone and the number in Taipei Airport, I sent her the first text message. It got through somehow. And she replied too. But somehow, things got a bit odd the next few days when I didn't get any messages from her. I didn't text her as well. So I just let it be. I didn't check on my Malaysian number as I used the Taiwanese number on my phone, the phone that they lent, I just didn't know how to use. So yeah, that was it.
Then there was one day when I decided to switch on my Malaysian number and to my horror, I got all this...
Mummy can't get through my Taiwanese number apparently. And I also got a message from the sister about mummy freaking out thinking I might've died in some earthquake. And somehow, coincidentally 5 minutes later, the sister called. I picked up, even though I knew it'll be a double charge call as it's pretty much of a roaming services. But the sister was very relieved when I picked up. She said mummy had been calling like since 2 days ago and all her messages bounced back and my line was unreachable. I mean, I swore I didn't get all those messages on my Taiwanese number, so how would I know, and I've been expecting her replies or her messages all along.
So finally I called her using my Malaysian number, again knowing it'll cost a limb. But I had to tell her I'm alright or she could go insane any minute then.
Sometimes I really wonder how all these international calls work...
