... On the Olympic Torch Relay

We saw 2 Chinese girls (as in from China) wearing this Beijing Olympic'08 shirt while having lunch at the cafeteria.

Me: Exchange students from China?
KK: Oooo I love their shirt! Olympic ones!
CH: Yea, love the logo!
Me: The torch relay thingy I suppose.
KK: Today right? Afternoon.
CH: TODAY? WHERE?
Me: Dataran Merdeka. 2 if I'm not mistaken. Why?
CH: Let's go let's go let's go!
Me: Seriously?!
CH: Yes yes yes! It's a rare chance!
KK: Camera?
Me: We don't have the camera. And the battery is dead.
KK: We'll go back and charge, CH shall go check the time.

And so we were headed to Dataran Merdeka around 1340. It's really like, a spontaneous thing. Never occured to me I'd be there myself. I never thought CH would be so interested. I mean, yea I am excited the Olympic's this year and in Beijing and all, but not till that extend.

Anyway, we made it to the field in time while they were lighting the torch or something. Lots of people no doubt. Hot and humid too.

There, a clearer picture on the two handsome Chinese guy standing like statues. I wonder if they're like the Royal Guards at the Buckingham Palace, they just look so damn serious!

We saw the president of Malaysian Olympic Council, the first to do the run.

And gazillions of DSLRs attacking the first man to do the torch relay in Malaysia.

After that, it was just more camwhoring. We didn't go as wild as the Chinese alright. We didn't go and camwhored with the drummers or Malay traditional dancers.

The relay made a run around the field before headed out to the highway. The last I checked, the route was passing through the palace, up the KL Tower, before finally ending at KLCC.

Lots of Chinese there. And lots of red flags too. Have to agree it's quite a sight.

Plus, LOTS of DSLR with those big protruding mouth.

Choppers flying around to make sure everything went smoothly. Or it was the TV station? Not quite sure.

Before finally heading back to school, we camwhored a bit more at the fountain. Yeaps, little kiddies we were. It was a hot day after all.

And CH managed to get some of that balloon rod thingy. The air leaked by evening.

We rode around in the hot day. The first time I ever ride at the back of a bike for over half and hour. Darn the back was aching.

Chinese gathering. Like there were riots or something.

Finally back to school. We skipped the 2 Orthopaedic lectures in the afternoon though. Though we could still attend the one at 4p.m., I somehow dozed off at the library. The whole body was sweaty and sticky.

But it was definitely quite an experience. We saw the TORCH!
