The next day, I was awake at 7 in the morning. From the look of the window, it seemed to be still snowing outside. And considering I had no winter clothing with insufficient warmers, I was very reluctant to go out. All the other backpackers were still asleep on their bunk. After taking a shower, I decided to brave the snow anyways.
Came to H&M down the street only to find it's open 2 hours later. My legs were beginning to go numb, and I couldn't feel my balls. But I walked anyways. The shophouses along the street were just like that of Malacca only in a different style. Renaissance maybe? I don't know...
Found my way towards the train station as I needed to travel by train the next day. And there was this tall building next to it. The guide book explained it was built by Stalin as a gift to the city, and the locals hated it for ages. But some are learning to accept it in the recent years. But what's most interesting was, there's a viewing deck on top of the building! The view was just magnificent. ;)
But the strong winds were unbearable. So I came down after a mere 10 minutes. Lucky me the big shopping mall next to the tower was already opened. And I bought myself a few extra sweaters. Tee-hee...
Let's just say the rest of the day involved lots of sight seeing...
From the tomb of the unknown soldiers...
To the Palace...
And the old square...
Details? Hmmm... I didn't go into the Palace though. History had it that the whole city was destroyed in the war. But the Polish rebuilt Warsaw's old town to its original state to the most delicate detail post-war that the whole of Warsaw old town was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage.
I did however, went up another tower next to the church at the town square to see the whole of the old town covered in snow...
And also the St Anne church next to the tower which was built in baroque style. And hence began the visitations to churches of Europe until I have forgotten the names of them churches now. LOL.
Night in Warsaw was quiet however. Like I mentioned, shops closed at 5-7 except for some bars and random restaurants... On my side of the city of course. Like many other European cities, the clubbing scene at some industrial area across the river were made of huge clubs and dancing floors, just that, with the guide's advice 'claiming it's a place to be avoided late at night', I thought it would be safer to tuck myself in earlier...
2 Jujus:
Your photos looked like postcards! Very nice indeed.
Goodness your balls didn't crack in the cold. I hope that you have learnt a valuable lesson about 4 season countries and their temperature. One very hot summer, I visited Los Angeles with my cousin from UK and we went out in shorts & light shirts to visit Disneyland. That night, the temperature dropped below 10 degrees with strong wind. I shivered like hell and my cousin has been scolding me for almost 20 years now over this matter for telling him off when he asked if he should bring sweaters in Summers?
thankiu thankiu! :D
but sweaters in summer? hmmm lol. good advice! LOL
