On the Welcoming Death

First day we were in the neurosurgery intensive care unit, we were welcome by death.

During a morning round, the lecturer instructed his medical officer to remove all the tubes, and the airway and make sure all the lines were properly aligned if they were still needed, before they called in the wife. I'd thought the patient was resuscitated from some major trauma, and they have yet to let the wife to come in or something.

10 minutes later, the wife and the doctor was standing at the end of the bed. Doctor explaining. Wife crying.

15 minutes later, the wife, the mother, the daughters and the sons were standing by the side of the bed. Everyone crying.

16 minutes later, the eldest daughter rushed forward and shook her father vigorously. "Bangunlah bah... Bangun! Bangun!"

17 minutes later, the wife tried to calm the daughter. The eldest son ushered the younger siblings out of the intensive care unit.

Sounds of tears and cries filled the intensive care unit that morning. Patient crashed into the divider trying to avoid a pedestrian, and flew off his bike a few meters away. He suffered from multiple subarachnoid hemorrhage, with fractures in the limbs and blunt trauma to the chest.

He was extubated 2 hours later.

Amen.
