On the Prejudice

Remembered about my retroviral patient? We were looking at his CT scan of the brain with the doctor on-call that night in the intensive care unit. We were talking about the possibility of abcesses the findings in the CT scan to be abscess, which is usually seen in patients who are immunocompromised, i.e. those who has cancer on treatment, TB infected or HIV positive.

And then the doctor made a remark.

Doctor: I won't be surprised if he's positive.

Me: Why?

Doctor: Because, well, they usually have this facies.

@.@

I never knew people who are infected with HIV have a typical facies. That's like, tagging a person with Down Syndrome, forget that those of Down Syndrome is established; and to guess a person to be positive based on the face?

Unacceptable.
