So we had this duck dish for CNY which Mum bought ready-made from some auntie at the wet market. This year it seemed, we didn't really make much of our own despite we had few days holiday before the eve. Sis had to work up till the eve while I burried myself in some books while they were following Sis out for her fieldwork.
So back to the duck...
Apparently, Mum claimed it was a hard-earned duck. She tried to place a booking with the duck auntie a few days before, but was told that no bookings were accepted this year. So everyone would have to fight for the early ducks.
On CNY eve, Mum woke Dad up as early as 4am to go to the market, just for the duck. Duck auntie wasn't there yet, but her customers were already queued up!
When the duck auntie arrived chaos broke lose and aunties were fighting for the ducks; order was not in the dictionary and everyone was pushing and fighting to get to the ducks. Hairs were pulled and shirts were torn. Okay I was exaggerating. But Mum said it was really that bad!
But alas, we got our duck, thanks to Dad. Dad went in, pushed all the aunties aside, grabbed two, paid and left.
The entire truck of ducks were cleared within 20 minutes.
Sis and I listened to what seemed like a fresh experience for Mum. We thought we've seen worse in THAT steamboat place in Sunway when everyone rushed towards the BBQ-ed chicken like piranhas... LOL.
