On the Scrumptious Pork-ey Reunion

NON-HALAL

Our reunion dinner this year saw the cardiothoracic surgeon of the family joining us for the first time after 10 years since he last graduated from medical school. It was of course a very anticipated meeting to have seen the man whom I've always looked up upon even before I started my journey in the medical career.

So apparently, our reunion dinner this year turned out to be quite a pork affair. Uncle from Brunei didn't come back this time round, while one of the cousin working in KL missed it as well. That aside, most of the other family members made their presence at Grandpa's place as early as 5 in the evening.

Somehow, the variety of dishes wasn't properly planned out since the auntie of Brunei wasn't here to co-ordinate as to who and what everyone was supposed to prepare. So it turned out that the pot-luck dinner that we have this year, we have 4 different varieties of pork dishes. FOUR! Of course amongst many others. But the 4 dishes of pork alone is enough to make up a quarter of the total dishes on the table.

Totally full is all I was after 2 hours munching away at the dining table, in between chats and catching ups with the aunties and cousins. The male siblings on father's side were all sitting on the other table, supposedly those of the MEN in the house since, as long as I could remember.

After dinner, we split amongst ourselves into groups unconsciously. One rooting in front of the television, one catching up and talking about parenting in the living, while the men were out in the porch talking about business, stocks and making money. But of course, cousin cardiothoracic surgeon being the young father were too busy attending the cheeky 7-year-old nephew of mine. I didn't let go the chance of asking him about his life and all, about his opinions of housemanship placements and what nots.

Finally by 11 at night, we headed home after the movie came to an end. As per usual, the long awaited firework shows in the balcony at midnight...
