On the other St Nicholas Church in Old Town Square

I got confused myself now while I was trying to blog about the churches in Prague. They are so beautiful I could not remember their names now. LOL. But yes, it was only after a while that I realized both the churches are called St. Nicholas. And yes, both of them were built in baroque style, which contributed to my confusion. So basically, there are 2 St Nicholas Churches in Prague - one in the Lesser Town at the foot of the hill where the Prague castle is located, and the other one in the Old town square.

St. Nicholas is a Baroque church, decorated with sculptures by AntonĂn Braun. The interior design was inspired by the chapel of St. Louis-des-invalides in Paris. The delicate stucco decoration was executed by Bernardo Spinetti, and the frescos are by Peter Adam the Elder. In 1781 decoration inside St. Nicholas was removed after emperor Josef II ordered the closure of all monasteries without a social function. From 1870-1914 St. Nicholas became Russian Orthodox. Then, during the second World War, Czech army units were stationed here and artists were set to work restoring the church. After the war, St. Nicholas was handed over to the Czech Hussite movement, with whom it remains today. It now serves as both a church and a magnificent venue for classical concerts. - Pragueexperience
