On Crocs Hazard

Saw this in OneUtama a few weeks ago, about rubber clogs. It says in this poster:

Rubber clogs should be banned as they pose a safety hazard especially to children, Consumer Association of Penang (CAP) president S.M. Mohamed Idris said.

He said incidences of clogs getting stuck in escalators had been reported in the United States, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

He said there had been reports of children who almost have their toes ripped off when their rubber clogs got stuck in the escalators.

Mohamed Idris said there was a similar incident in Penang recently involving a four year old boy whose clog was stuck in the escalator at a mall.

"Authorities should not wait until somebody is grievously injured before taking action, " he told a press conference yesterday.

Mohamed Idirs urged the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to tell the manufacturers to recall the rubber clogs, especially those of a certain US brand that was manufactured in China.

The four year old victim in Penang, Aaron Teoh, who was present at the press conference, said his left clog was damaged after it got stuck in an escalator.

"The clog is rosak (spoilt)." he said, adding that the incident occurred when he went shopping with his mother V. Manglesvary. Manglesvary said the mall management had informed her that another boy, who was wearing a similar pair of clogs, also experienced the same mishap.

I don't know about you, but I think this is a piece of crap. Just because some KIDS got their feet stuck in the escalator, and nearly got their toes cut off, the entire shoe-wear is to be recalled? That thing, that supporting band for the Archilles tendon, can be removed, or installed back. Should it drop off, either you take it out, or push it back in. A certain degree of force and angle needed to be applied.

But just because some isolated incidence, it's suggested that we ban it totally. What is the rationale behind this? This is not a car, obviously. But have you actually thought that it would happen? It's just like, because Proton cars get involved in accidents a lot (just merely because a lot of Malaysians buy Proton), we should recall all the Proton cars.

There. Just my 2 cents.

Plainly because I've been wearing it since a few months back. LOL.

yeah, i'm quite curious why would have only that specific kind of shoes that cause the accidents?? it's the shoes problem or the human problem??

My friend was so cautious when his 2 small sons went up the escalator but his own croc shoe got swallowed into the moving steps! He created a scene at mid Valley when he kicked the emergency button. No more he said!
