On the Consultation from Prague

It was almost 2 in the morning when I received a message from the Brother all the way in Prague. Quite a surprise, he never EVER send me any text messages. And he's a very independent guy he doesn't even need any help. So after trying to open my eyes wide and read what he actually wrote, it actually felt quite good he finally asked me something.

"Hey, how's it going? Eh need to ask something. There's been blood in my stool la. 3 times dy. And its scaring the shit out of me. How ah?"

My next thought was to get online and communicate with him live. Replying him would probably be too expansive a thing to do. So I asked him if he's online on FB, easier to chat that way. I wasn't keen with Skype despite Mum's always calling him on Skype, maybe because my voice sounds too eerily high pitched over any form of phone.

So anyways, upon further asking, we finally came to a provisional diagnosis that it was probably just a hemorrhoids. First degree to be exact.

That was when he was asking me what was the management of it, what would happen if he leave it there.

I was like, shite, need to refer books. Hemorrhoids is pretty much part and parcel of our daily lives, and I remembered I read quite extensively into it last year when I was in surgery posting, all I could remember about the treatment was to do rubber banding, and let the hemorrhoids die of necrosis so that it would fall out by itself. And to do that, of course you'd need to go to a doctor, let him poke up your arsehole with a proctoscope and shoot that rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoids.

"Eeewww... Dowan dowan dowan!" He exclaimed.

Another method, as read from the textbook, was to do a hemorrhoidectomy, some surgical intervention. And upon hearing the word surgery, he freaked out again.

"Har! Dowaaaannnnnnn!"

So he finally asked, what would happen if he just leave it there?

"Infections lor. Septicemia, then probably you'd get septic shock and die if not treated promptly."

"Crazy! So serious?"

"It's the shit we're talking about. You get pretty nasty bugs in your shit."

"But then again, what will happen if I leave it?"

"Erm... It's first degree, I think it'll go off by itself. I think. It's after all some engorged blood vessels. But then again, if the bleeding continues for the next 2 days, go see a doctor. Okay?"

"Okay. Thanks. Will see how first."

"Alrighty. Gotta go to bed. 2am. Nite. Anything just ask me again la."

"Alright, night."
