On the O&G Introductory Class

I was looking through the photos in my camera phone when I came across something interesting from a year ago.

It's a dummy vagina with a speculum halfway insterted.

There was an introductory class to all the clinical classes before we went to our clinical block. It was exciting, considering it was a shift from theory classes to finally hands on experience. We would finally see the patients after 2 years of hugging the books and memorize without knowing anything.

So there we were, inside one of those labs with specimens when this obstetrician came in. Fierce lady alright. Asked us a lot on the anatomy of the vagina to which I've totally forgotten now. My bad. So we were taught on the techniques of doing a per vaginal examination and pap smear, which first have to start of with cleaning the labias. Swip down, swipe up, and that's it.

Then the whole metalic thing we call speculum goes in. Ouch! Doing it on that dummy alone made it feel as if the lady who will get this huge "tool" will feel pain instead of enjoyment. I mean, it's like, okay, some men might have even larger ones. But still, metalic... It's gotta be a really stiff one to feel like this thing...

We walked around the lab after class, and came across the male dummy in one of the closet. I wonder why there wasn't any lesson on examining the balls. Hmm....
