Well, I'm one who don't really complain about class being canceled or what not, like how the girls in my group used to be like whenever there's lack of a class or two compared to the other groups. In fact, I'm more than happy that it's canceled so that I can erm, wait, I don't know what I actually do after that.
But things start to change a little lately. I started to voice out my concern to him that we have got too little surgery teachings. The surgeons couldn't make it in time, or that they have emergency meetings. So instead of 3 teachings per week, we get 2 teachings in 2 weeks. Well that was what it was for the past 4 weeks. The coming 4 weeks will observe some changes when the super fierce surgeons coming in to take us. Pray that I survive please?
Anyways, our problem-based learning discussions on a surgery case this afternoon was taken by one of the surgeons that come to teach, not my group, but the other group. I came back from the hotel where my parents stay by noon just in time for a shower before heading into the tutorial room.
Who would've known, just before I go out, I received a text message from my colleage saying that the surgeon would be late, emergency operation in the theatre. And well, there was no time mentioned as to how late our discussion would be postponed to. In another words, we were to wait for indefinite time until the surgeon comes.
And so I waited in the kepochi room, as how he termed it. I was sweating profusely despite the full-blown fan. I tried to 'glance' through the surgery book that I had in hand. Fighting the headache that I had, I was amazed that I waited for almost one hour in the room. Until the next group came out from theirs.
It was 3pm and there was still no signs or news from the surgeon that was supposed to take us. But I still sat there waiting patiently.
But not for long. I finally gave up and headed back to my room. The ward round the other group is suppose to have with this surgeon was canceled. Yet there was no news in telling us whether or not our discussion was still on. And so, I presumed it's not.
It was already 4pm after all. Quite unlikely that he'll drive for one hour down to Klang and have 1 hour of class. So yea, now that our discussion was off, seems like we're going to have a class on Wednesday morning.
So yea, basically what surgery posting to me at the moment is, like how another colleague put it, is a posting where you get orders that sounds like "Class postponed" before it gets "Class canceled", of which you have to wait for the whole afternoon before you get the later.
Is it too much if we get the second order earlier so that we can plan what to do for the rest of the days instead of waiting?

Over a dinner recently, an Indian grad doctor told me similar woes of frequent cancellations during his studies in New Delhi. Looks like you got to round up a group to protest on this matter otherwise I would never dare to allow Dr Bong to knife me on the operation theatre. Ha ha ha....
I wonder how will they explain to the dean or whoever is in charge of their frequent class cancellations.
u learn how to do plastic surgery?

Dude, you remind me of singing the song ... RIGHT HERE WAITING... blek!

Well it actually happens. Can't believe the number of times I've stood around as a med student waiting for a teaching. For hours sometimes.
Happens so often that I doubt anyone would listen even if complaints were made. yMedicine is just oddly unpredictable.
