On Making Yourself Blue

Oxygen saturation is measured to see if a patient is in hypoxic state. In layman, to find out if a person has enough oxygen to be alive. More often than not, asthmatic patients or those with obstructive airway diseases will have a reduced oxygen saturation, whereby they'll find themselves gasping for air. Generally, we'll check if the nailbed or the under-surface of the tongue is blue, indicating a person is cyanotic, meaning, not enough oxygen.

Roughly like that lar. I cannot write a bombastic medical textbook for you anyways.

So anyways, we saw this device in the end of the bed of one of the patients in the ward the other day. Apparently it's used to measure the oxygen saturation, which also shows the heart rate. He has some problems with his heart valves, leading to respiratory failure apparently. Out of mischief, I went around and played with the device.

I know it's not ethical. But hey, it's interesting to see your oxygen saturation dropping the longer you hold your breath.

Stupid and childish eh?

And I expect the Anonymous who commented before to come in and leave another comment, deal with it, I'm stupid. :P So? I'm enjoying myself. And I'm happy.

Yup, measures oxygen saturation by comparing infrared absorption by oxyHb and deoxyHb.

Hee, looks fun. I'm sure the patient would be willing to show you if you make friends.

...you're getting anon comments? Just ignore trolls, and make ZERO mention.

i'm asthmatic. my airway is smaller than other ppl's. it get more smaller when it is irritated. if it weren't for the sickness, i would have represented my school for basketball. or would have won that gold medal in the 100m sprint. asthma is the main cause i have a weaker upper body strength. well, what to do. life goes on.
