On the Car Injury

We're glad that we're all back home safely. But here's the start of the drama as we were away for the past two weeks.

We set out in a convoy to Maran town which was about 4 hours away from Klang, so they said. Convoy, hear ye. 10 cars, each carrying 4 persons and the whole boot packed to the brim.

The jumbled up sequences and what not were just minor compared to what happened once we came out from the junction before Batu Caves. As the car far far in front of us made a sudden brake, the nightmare happened. It was a truck or some sort in front of us.

Application of Physics law: the momentum of a heavy moving object taking a sudden brake. And the answer is...

Well, be glad that it wasn't my car.

But yea, be so UN-glad that I was involved in the accident. Here's the story.

I managed to brake and successfully stopped my car inches away from the truck in front of me. With the heavy car and all, it was a lot of cold sweat and screaming inside the car as the car screeched to a halt. And the immediate reaction was to look at the rear and check if the car behind us would be banging into us. It was just 2 seconds of relief that we thought we were fine when a huge momentum threw us forward (of course not to the extend of being thrown out of the car, thanks to the seat belts), and another 2 seconds later another bang was heard and honk was heard all over the place.

We parked at the side and came out of the car to check out the damage. While everyone was lamenting at the injuries to the car, I thought I was spared, until I tried to open the boot. Yes it can be opend. But no, it cannot be closed.

The other colleagues heading to the same town stopped down busy-bodying. But I guess it was also for that, that helped knocked everyone to senses. The traffic jam caused was massive. Till the extend that we had traffic police to tell us to shift our car elsewhere because complaint came in from Bukit Aman headquarters.

No one was injured, luckily. But the last car that knocked into the 3rd car, which in turn bumped into the 2nd car and caused the 2nd hit onto my butt, was issued a ticket. Both the cars which failed to come to a halt and knocked into the car in front were sacrificed and we lost 2 cars that day.

We called the lecturers. The supervisors. The police. Insurance office. Car agent. Parents last of course.

But it was only after lodging a police report that we drove from Gombak, which was like, 3pm in the afternoon. The rest of the team left first. Those who were passangers in the involved cars left in the lecturers' apparently.

I have yet to settle with the damage on the car. Was not sure whether I want to go through the hassle of claiming for insurance and all... And I was too stingy to let the middle-man to get it done. One thing I learnt, you will never need to worry about accidents on a highway in KL, you will definitely get tow cars within minutes, all your reports and service whatsoever done in a couple of hours.

I made a few calls alright. Called up the father, which gave him quite a shock and mum almost fainted and sis calling up everyone she knows in insurance and all. Then I called the car agent to ask about my car insurance, which led me to a dead end as the agent no longer works in the same company. And finally texted some close friends asking for advice. After all it was my first time, and I totally have no idea what to do!

It was only by evening that we finally made it to Maran that day. With the injury to the car, despite just being a small knock on the bumper at the back, as how the colleague put it, our confidence were hugely damaged that day.

Rough. I can't imagine what I would have done in your position as well - probably the same.

I'm just glad you're not hurt. Well, and so is everyone else of course.

It's not cheap to fix your butt... errrrr... you car butt! :p BTW, you could claim the issurance of the person that kiss your butt... just present your police report... since it's the person fault for kissing your butt... I had it once and the company that fix your car will handle for you.

I am so relieved nobody was hurt. That is the most important thingy. Everything else is secondary.

Luckily it is just inconvenience and money. Hopefully insurance wont b a hassle.

good thing it was not a pile up.. that would have been awful but its good to hear that you are alright! In cases like this, was there a police report? if there is, then definitely have to claim insurance.. me thinks..

What an accident! And it's not your fault! You should claim damages from the driver behind you. And don't drive too close behind a heavy vehicle next time.
