On the Cut

So we've been going out. And well, knowing me not eating fruits lately, I was bought some fruits last weekend from the pasar malam. "Make sure you eat the pear! Else I come smack your ass." I remember vividly. Gone with the apples, now the pears. The guilt haunts for not listening to the words, what's more when I'm actually the one studying to become a medical doctor. Yet I'm the one not taking fruits.

Therefore, came 11p.m., I had my dinner after coming back from meeting Bernard and the rest of the gang. Pear it was then.

I have a very sharp knife in the room. Very very sharp. To the extend of slicing anything into two. Totally adored it. But have only been using it to cut fruits. I mean, well that was the main reason I bought it anyways.

Have always been careful in using the knife. I thought I would never be hurt in my way of peeling the skin of my fruits. Despite most of the time Mum would be screaming at me and took everything from me when I tried to do that at home.

But without Mum around, I had my own sweet time...

Only that this time round...

"SHIT! FUCK!"

Roomie was looking at my lappie screen when I was cutting my pear. Drops of fresh blood tainted the waste basket. Basically oozing from the cut on the palm. God knows why I was so careless that I wasn't able to estimate how deep I was cutting on the fruit that I poked into my own palm.

With blood oozing like mad, I had to apply pressure and press on the wound as hard as I can... Tied it with the tight sock I had from last time. That's the only cloth I could think of at the moment.

There I was. Congratulations to me.

I spoke too soon about me never getting cut. Bummer. I wonder if I'll be down with sepsis tomorrow. Didn't apply any antiseptic or whatsoever. Didn't have that in the room either. Sigh.

Yet the pear tasted sweeter than normal.

The price to pay to eat a pear. The whole hand went numb now due to the pressure applied on the wound. But if there's anything less, it'll start bleeding again. Hooowwww?

Aiyo. Hope you're feeling a bit better now, and that you're hand is healing up okay - even if it is still sore. *hugs*

The pear is sweeter than normal, because it is tainted with BLOOD! ;)

Aiyo! This doctor-to-be is so careless one. Hehehe... There is a fruit peeler thing that will never cut our hands when we use it. Just slide that peeler on the skin of the fruit and the skin will peel off easily. We don't use knife anymore to cut the skin. Go find it in the supermarket or your nearest mini market.

Aiyoyo. Go buy a peeler!

Here's a word of advice from a person who loves knifes that can cut deep...

When ever you are cutting with a small knife like yours and when you are cutting fruits always cut gently. No pressure is required. You can use the knife as a leverage while you push and turn the pear (My style). Another way is to cut outward facing away from you (Oriental style) or your hand. That way if you use too much strength you won't cut yourself. The other way (Western style) is to use as much control force as you can to cut the pear, but cut inward towards you.

I wouldn't recommend Western style if you are not used to the knife yet.. oh and one more thing, Chinese belief says that if a knife taste blood, it gets sharper.. so beware!

Oh you poor thing... hope your palm heals soon.

Your incident kinda reminded me of the time I almost cut off my finger. I was opening a packet of candies with a pair of really sharp scissors. Didn't even realize that I was cutting my index finger til I saw blood on the packet hehehe...

Anyways, be extra careful when using a knife in the future :)

Dude, just eat the whole pear/apples with the skin... the skin contain most Vitamin.

Anyway, take care and heal soon... :)
