On Terry Fox Run Coverage

Finally... Never knew editing photos could be so gruesome... LMAO. Especially when we need to pick 20 out of hundreds and edit and resize and strip off the exif and submit it to the organizer... :D Now I'm bragging. MUAHAHAHAHA.

Anyways, it was the Terry Fox Run Kuala Lumpur 2008, a charity event, for cancer research. Now about Terry Fox... He was a Canadian, who was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres (six inches) above the knee in 1977. He was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. He would call his journey the Marathon of Hope. It was a journey that Canadians never forgot. However, on September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles), Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because cancer had appeared in his lungs. An entire nation was stunned and saddened. Terry passed away on June 28, 1981 at age 22. The heroic Canadian was gone, but his legacy was just beginning... Read more here.

Now honestly, I didn't know who Terry Fox was. Until last Sunday. Tagged along with Melvin to Lake Garden for the run. And I was actually one of the 12 official photographers for that event! Blimey weeee! My 1st time! :D

The run was amazing. There were about 7000 people joining the run, aged from as young as a few years old to those over a few decades. Some came in wheels i.e. roller blade and bicycle, while most were there for the good cause. And it was indeed a great opportunity to be part of the event. Yasmin was the emcee, the Aida girl from Amazing Race Asia was also there...

So here are the selected FEWS. LMAO Long post ahead... I don't know which to pick, since I really love them all.

Before the run...

During the run...

After the run...

And finally the event was over...

I had fun really. LOADS of fun. It was tiring no doubt. But to come back and look at the pictures I took, I found out that there are a lot of people who still cares out there. For a moment, I felt warmth deep inside. Peoples of all walks of life come together to make the run an success.

No one was the winner, and there was no time limits. It was just an event, to continue and cherish what Terry Fox had started. And for that, I salute all that participated in the Terry Fox Run Kuala Lumpur 2008.

And for once after so long, I feel love's in the air...
