Brain

Had an amazing interestingly fun lab practical on Physiology today. We were doing experiments on vision and auditory stuff. Gotta say, the eye is always an amazing thing. So you see, there would be lots and lots of tests for us to try out and have fun.

On vision, the Snellen's Chart (tests for short-sightedness) was a bore. The Ishihara's Chart where you are tested for colour blindness, is also a bore. But the Astigmatism fan is pretty interesting. Stand far enough and you actually will see the difference in the some of the radiations from the centre point, and by that, you have astigma. There's also the perimeter of an arc of a circle, where we could test out our vision field.

While some of the other coursemates were trying out on the basic tests, such as the constricting pupils as a reflex to light or the accomodation reflex and all, one of us decided to test out for the nystagmus effect. It's not seen in normal person, and if it is, there would be lesions on one of the cranial nerves. Ah well.. boring stuff to non-meds I suppose. So, in order to see it in a normal person, we have to sit him down on a rotating chair, and spin him. Once done, grab him, make sure he looks at something far, and observe the eye. There's the really cool movements in the eye. The eyeball move to and fro repeatedly until the subject isn't dizzy anymore. We didn't get to record down the 2 girls we spun on the chair. But we had a good laughing.

I looked up this nystagmus thingy on youtube, so perhaps it might give you some idea what I was crapping about. It isn't as clear though. So if you really want to see it, hey, you have got to go try it out! It's fun. Serious FUN!

So, anyway. I didn't try much of the tests. But I've known I've got vision problem. Wasn't quite sure which eye is which, but one of the eye is of short-sighted, while the other is of astigma. *sniggering*

Now, while fondling around with the apparatus before lab starts, I saw this Pixar lamp we use for medical microbiolgy. What do you see?

Think DIRTY. *LMAO* And I do mean DIRTY! DIRTY as in distorted and disgusting dirty. Can't believe I'm even doing this, but gotta get some fun after that troubling post. No? *sniggering*

Examination of the optic nerve? Interesting.

May I guess if the lamp's used to assist in the pap smear?

little dove, we haven't done any pap smear. the lamp was used in medical microb labs, to dry out the smear stuff after staining. standard procedure, but we nrmaly just use the bunsen burner. :)

jane, nope, not the lookalike female anatomy. but good try. LOL

savante: look carefully! think dirty! :P it's a lamp, remember the 'pixar' ad. :P

janvier, ur comments so de blardy hilarious. but i c u've the same thoughts! hahahahaha

jason, nothing wrong... just a trick to the mind. :D
