About the Piety that is in Me

Right. Pious I am. Of course I am!

I was relatively pleased that I've got myself The Great Compassionate Mantra from the temple the other day, despite being stalked on our way home. Well, I AM still relatively pleased about it all. How could I not? I can hymm along and calm myself down when I'm agitated or restless. As I always am. And besides, do pardon me though, I'm prone to depression. *sniggering*

Anyway, was chatting to Calvin sometime ago about the mantra. As to how I should listen to it. I mean, I totally have no idea how or what are the correct ways. Like, uh, I thought I could just listen to it like I listen to One Republic. *sniggering* Sorry sorry Amitabha...

So... according to Calvin, the few rules of listening to The Great Compassionate Mantra...

Not naked.
Not sleeping.
Not lying down.
Must concentrate.
Meditate.

Now, here are the charges... as far as I recalled...

1) The day I got the mantra, I just played it on the lap top and went doing some other stuff, eg worrying about what to wear when the friend visits (breaking rule number 3, & 5).

2) The following day, I attempted to read some notes, with the Great Compassionate Mantra still playing (breaking rule 3, 4 and 5).

3) For a few nights, I slept while the mantra was being played, with the idea that I could sleep well and comfortably (breaking rule 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - I wasn't totally naked, but I wasn't fully clothed either *sniggering*).

Like uh... I'm so guilty as charged!

Mum and Dad was wondering why I would even want the Great Compassionate Mantra in the first place, for we're not really religious. But Mum being the more superstitious one, she just let me rummage through the pile of CDs. All this while, I thought that, the Mantra could help calm me down. I'm always agitated. Restless. Oh did I mention I'm depression-prone too? I was wrong all along thinking that, the Mantra could be played like, uh, anytime and anywhere, not realizing the chantings are actually names of the Buddhas, and that whenever the Mantra is is being played, the Buddhas will come to you.

So yeah, I finally understood why there's the whole mass prayer when the temple invited so many monks at some point of the year. They will chant the mantra some hundreds of times, and bless the names of those worshippers for whatever they yearn for. I mean, no doubt, it's not going to be like you'll get whatever you wish for, it's more of a source of spiritual support I suppose. I mean, yeah well, the Buddhas will help you, I believe, but you still have to work for it or something. I mean... that's what I think. ugh. Blabbling blabbling...

But the trick is, whenever you play the chantings, not only the Buddhas will come, the lost souls a.k.a. ghosts would come by too. Lex had his eyes wide opened, and smirked, "did you have any nightmares?" Ish, I could so slap him! "Of course I did not!! Buddhas are around me, those lost souls would not dare to touch me." Hmph.

Right. Yea so I don't have any statues of Buddhas to scare them losts souls away, but they're attracted to the chantings to lessen their sins, so that they could reincarnate, according to Calvin. So that means, even if there are the invinsible beings around, I'll still be fine, I'm doing them a favour, no? I mean, they can't go anywhere near the temple for all the Buddha statues in there, so if I play the Compassionate Mantra, I'm giving them the chance! Bla bla bla, I'm being all superstitious now.

But hey, I do believe in Buddhas and losts souls...

And I do want to become a doctor. But you know... hospitals... Lots of them losts souls...

Spooky innit?

Amitabha....

And I shall be protected. *sniggering*

hi there, i randomly came across ur blog and read ur comments on compasionate mantra. i would like to share some of my understandings abt the rule for listening or chanting the mantra.
ur fren calvin is very correct abt all the rule in general speaking. i do love to listen or chant the great compasion mantra whenever im restless or worry of certain, or when i need to wish something kekeke. as the name of the mantra implicate, the great compasion, so she is actually showing unconditional compassion for human sentients, she vows to help anyone who chants (listen?)
so its always good to follow the rules ur fren mentioned to show our respect for the buddha and mantra, provided its convenient, for example some ppl will listen to it while driving, can he b considered as rude? no he is not, so i think the rules are general guidelines, but we can b more flexible, but the bottom line is being respectful lo.

buddhism is not a religion yar. it's an education. Great Compassion Mantra sole purpose is not for making u at peace. its u who made it. the mantra for inner peace, ie meditation is heart sutra. doink... :P

abt the rules hor, how u sleep n listening ah? kekeke... u noe wats concentrate? means not thinking anything else but chanting, hearing from outside, reach the heart and then flow out thru entire body. when u can sustain this, its called meditation.

u shud not take pungent food if chanting. better vegetarian. cos ghouls will come so close to ur mouth. no gods or watever saints will come. since its a Great Compassion Mantra, treat it with Great Respect. Wash hands n face b4 listening. Place the player on table level. when finished, put cd at high level n at clean place.

for a mantra n sutra to bcome effective, when u chant, there's nothing else in ur mind except chanting with no broken words. otherwise u get little or no blessings.

after chanting, forward the blessings! even if u know u have not chanted well, still u can forward. there's verses for these.

for the dead to rcv ur blessings, every 7 sutras or mantras u chant, they get 1. u get 6. if u chant for urself, u get all.

chanting with a glass of water in front can make it better for drinking. has healing properties. its cooling too.

ur breaking so many rules ah. wahaha... habis... ur like play play n not serious. start with taking vegetarian cos it makes u the habit to become serious. if u sikap tak apa, u'll break any rules. if ur virtous, there will be dragon n gods protect u everyday. those close to u or the entire town will be protected too but depends on ur virtue. if u play play, u think the gods will protect u? wont lor. but the ghouls n angry ghost will come. so don't play play. have some honesty. it pays.

my apologies if i offend u yar.
