For the Hooo-hah Over Rubella

"Right... Now we go into Rubella. Like uh, I'm sure you know about the hoo0-hah over it last year. You guys did the questionaire right? Did you guys did that? But ah anyway, yea you all should know about the hoo-hah."

The one and only Microbiologist I hate but like at the same time. She's witty, she's long-winded, she's crap-chatty, but she's good. Yeap. She's none other than the one everyone feared of being assigned to for the PBL session, for whoever were lucky enough to get this doctor from the Medical Microbiolgy department, the session stretch till 5p.m. when everyone else' ended at 4p.m. at most.

"You know, when I was in gynae last time.. bla bla bla... So I ended up microbiologist instead. We don't need to go to the hospital at 3a.m., and well, we sound smart. Coz even the clinicians refer to us. So yeap, next time specialize in medical microbiolgy..."

Well, we were having the lecture on erm, I'm not exactly sure what system, but there's things about babies and antenatal stuff. So presuming it's the reproductive system. Ooooh! Soon enough there'll be the birds and the bees. *LMAO*

"Right, so there's the airborne spreading of Rubella virus... bla bla bla... And it's like uh, I was asking my colleague and all about the cases reported. Like uh, from 50 to 500. And they were like, have no idea what's the virus going to cause to the mothers. And yea, we were trying so hard to make sure there's no spreading into the hospital and all, since well, UM is like a very unique campus, 'cause we're the only one in the country with every faculty located in the same place and a hospital attached to it..." She looked around to check if there's any hidden cameras or something, before continuing "and I seriously think we should seperate to be away from the other campus, but ah well, of course there's some good and some bad about it, but yea, anything that happened outside can always spread into the hospital."

It did struck me that, blimey, we are truly the only university in the country not having another campus, but what captured me most was, I wasn't quite aware of the figures, but wow, shockingly 500 cases of Rubella in campus last year. No wonder there were such a hoo-hah about vaccination. Everyone in the college were made to go get vaccination, and every medical students or rather, whoever in the medical faculty suspected of Rubella case, were quaranteened far far away in the other residential college located on the other end of the campus. There were posters all over the place about the vaccination programme. It was made compulsory especially us as we were walking in and out of the hospital, knowing there's pregnant mothers succeptible to the virus all over the place. *LMAO* We were THAT dangerous. How could we not? Babies could suffer from malformations!

Anyway, while Dr.-came-back-from-Ireland-who-thinks-local-med-students-are-not-as-good-as-those-in-UK talked about Rubella, KK and I straight away remembered that we DID have a case or Rubella in Ehsan Ria, a.k.a. another medical students' residential place outside the UM campus. *LMAO* We have one of the earliest case in fact, and he's sleeping next to me.

Rubella rash on KW's

So much for the hoo0-hah, we all went for the vaccination as well, even though it's said the virus is only dangerous to the females. But we didn't want to risk transmitting the virus to our female counterparts, since it is deadly for them in some ways...
Yeap yeap, we are very considerate. *LMAO*

I always wondered why is it called German Measles... Why German?

LOL By the time we retire from our profession, we are bound to have vaccine-activated-IgG against gazillions of pathogenic organisms already.

Taken the influenza vaccine jab yet?
