On Getting Welcomed by Snow in Warsaw

Okay so I so totally didn't expect to travel in winter. Never was in the plan anyways, I thought it would've been spring in the Northern atmosphere considering it was already March. And by default, what I've learnt in Geography back in secondary school was, it should be turning spring by March. My brother did say it was still cold in Bratislava 3 weeks before my arrival, but I defended it would be spring then...

But lo and behold...

When my flight (which was 5 hours later than my initial plan) arrived in Warsaw Airport, my first impression was... "Shit! It's snowing!"

I was only wearing a T-shirt and a normal sweater then. Even though the hostel is just about 10 minutes walk away from the airport, I couldn't bear the cold and resulted in taking the taxi. LMAO. The Vietnamese gentleman that I was chatting with was surprised that I actually planned for a backpacking trip during the winter, "This is not the time for travel!" He said, "And you would definitely need something more than just what you are wearing now."

To be honest, my mood was pretty much spoilt by missing my flight earlier, well as the fact that it was winter and snowing. I was on quite a tight schedule in Poland. And when I found out later that I double booked a hostel for the weekend in both Warsaw and Krakow, I nearly blew my head off at myself. LOL. I gave up and just sat at the lounge of the hostel, cancelling a booking (and paid the fee of last minute cancelling) and reshuffle my schedule for a bit.

Had a small chat with a Canadian dude, and came to my senses. WTH was I doing in the hostel?! I was freaking 10000km away and I was paying to be there!

So I braved myself out of the hostel, looking for dinner.

But it's Poland you see. And it's cold. Polish stay indoor. And nothing opens after 5pm. Supermarkets were closed at 7pm. And some bars far in between.

I walked for 2 minutes, shivering. The plan of walking to the square 15 minutes away seems impossible. My legs turning numb. And I couldn't feel my hands...

So I turned back.

And that... was my first experience of encountering winter...

Why TZ never advised you how to survive winters? You should have brought snacks & cup noodles in your bag dei.
