On the Mandarin Speaking Indian

It's nothing unusual, I've had Indian friends in my primary school, who knows Mandarin as well as most of us. But it was indeed something to shout about in a 10 year old Indian child who has cerebral palsy, intellectually aged 7 years old.

She's great to be able to communicate with most of us, though she couldn't stand due to the problems in the leg. But at least she wasn't intellectually challenged, which is a great thing. At least she wouldn't have any problems learning.

So after we had talked to her care taker and well, played with her and all, we thought we saw her attending doctors recorded that she actually speaks Malay, English, Tamil and Mandarin!

My group members were so excited that one of them kept asking me to try to talk to her in Mandarin. But I was hesitant, I felt by doing so, it was as though I was doubting her language abilities. But in the end, we sort of just asked her caretaker to double confirm.

Her caretaker looked at us puzzled, "No, not a single word!"

And I smacked my forehead... Luckily I didn't walk up to her and asked “你会讲华语?很厉害!”
