See, one of the main reasons I don't like Paediatrics is, the kid cry like crazy. There was once when a young toddler admitted because of difficulty in breathing. Asthma or some sort. He was given oxygen prongs for the supply of oxygen through his nose. And so, he stopped crying.
But during our rounds, when we moved towards his bed, he started wailing again. Even the mother could not console him. And the longer we stay at the end of his bed, the louder he wails. So when the consultant wanted to listen to his lungs, it was just plain impossible. Each step towards him invited louder wailing, to the extent that you could actually see he was screaming without any tears from the eye. Like, seriously? Are we that scary?
The consultant was kind enough to say the child was probably traumatized because we needed to take some blood and set a line. But me, I was terribly irritated with screams and shouts, especially unreasonable ones, like the ones coming from these kids. They're plain ungrateful, annoying, illogical creature. I'd have slapped them and warn that if they don't stop crying, I'm not going to help them. For Christ's sake, the oxygen is supposed to help him breath and reduce the discomfort. But they didn't even appreciate what we've given, and looked at us as if we were going to kill them. That fury flames in the eyes... Totally unacceptable.
Then again, like what the consultant was saying, they're still children. They have no means of communication, they've not learn how to complain what's hurting them, so crying is the only way. But like how the idiom goes, once bitten twice shy, they too, fear that we'd harm them again, for the first time we poke needles into their limbs, was already bad enough that it left a major trauma. At their age, their thinking was everything about them. So when they're hurt, the doer must be bad people. Simple as that.
Simple? I think, they should at least just shut up already.

well, i really agree with the consultant that baby only know communication by crying - perhaps you should learn what different kind of crying means what different kind of communications?? :D
I'd really wanted to slap those kids who scream and cry like almost half of the time, especially in the malls man... i mean, STFU man! its like super sonic attack from zubat or something!
sounds like paeds is not your cup of tea!
Their mothers didn't wail-train them enough! My mum's stern eyes could just silent me with 1 glary stare!
