On the Influenza Virus Vaccination

Ever since the H1N1 scare last year, and since the brother's studying overseas, Mum came to know that we could actually go for a vaccination for influenza. And since there's vaccination every year, it gets her even more paranoid about being protected against the flu. So when she called to ask me if I'm free for the vaccination, I knew I could only say yes, because she would never accept 'no' as an answer.

So we headed to the private hospital nearby and asked if they had the vaccination. The hospital is like, well, a hotel, and that's not boasting. The security guard and concierge is in fact, better than some of those in the shopping malls. So it's not surprising that the vaccination would cost a bomb. But if that buys some peace for mum, I'd say just buy it then.

I waited for a while before I was called into the consultation room. A nurse attended to me. Good command of English, not bad. From her name, I presumed she's from the East Malaysia. Asked me if I've got any allergies, and advised me to take some paracetamol later on if I started to have fever.

Thank goodness though, I wasn't prescribed one. Or else I think the bill would be much higher. LOL. But the parents thought it was still cheaper! Back home, one shot of this vaccine cost 90 bucks, so to have it almost 30 bucks cheaper here, they were relatively happy. As for me? I thought it was still pretty over-rated.

Then again, the hospital itself was hotel-like. Did I mention that the concierge was like, so classy? Wait till you check out the room rates! Even higher than the hotel I used to stay in!

But then, with such charges, it's no wonder is it?

The bill came out to be a total of 126 bucks for 2 shots. That's the cost of some vaccines jabbed and in the whole process of 3 seconds. That's also the cost of Mum's worry, about us getting infected with influenza.

might have been cheaper at GP clinics. i got it from my colleague for abt RM33.

the special room may be a perk for international patients but it won't come cheap.
