It's made up, that "paedo-phobia" thing. But really, Paediatrics made us so tensed and conscious to the extent it turned into fear.
It's the only posting who made us do ward work, i.e. stay in the ward doing God knows what, AND check on us whether we really did do our ward work, i.e. staying in the ward doing God knows what, by giving us an attendance sheet that we need to get the senior medical officers to sign. So our day to day activities consists of waking up at 6 and going to the ward at 7 to cover the new admission after mid night, and follow their ward rounds at about 8 until noon, and continue staying in the ward to follow another round at 2 until 4 or so. Like, seriously, the ward rounds that the lecturers do with the senior medical officers or the house officers, we have no idea at all.
We were told to be proactive lah. So yeah lor, we can offer to do the physical examinations and what not. But after that, the senior medical officer will still do the same thing, and only what they do will be recorded in the case notes. Owing to the shame and frustration that we might give, might as well just be a passive follower, and revert to the old typical Asian student who, stay at the back not saying anything and well, pretty much still annoys the Pediatricians. It's plain misery I tell you. You do stuff, it's wrong; you don't do stuff, it's also wrong. The time spent in the ward were like, so dreadful that you wish the clock would tick faster.
So. Whenever we've got any reason to escape that sort of misery, we'd escape any form of ward work. MC, lecture, CPC, tutorials. As long as we don't have to be in the ward. Shame on us really. We're just students lorh. Some professors said, we should go enjoy, not being emotionally tortured in the ward. Some thought otherwise. But either way, I agree with the former 200%.
But really, if you're in my shoes, you'd feel the same too. I think.
We're counting days... to the end of this dreadful posting.

It's a noble job and we need doctors for all occasions! Births, deaths, sickness and disasters. You guys should be given greatest respect, support and understanding, rite? I often sympathized with the doctors when I heard of lawsuits!! Scary! Paedo-phobia!
