I once told my friend after my calls, that I think I enjoy taking blood more, than doing the work of a real doctor, i.e. clerk patients, prescribing drugs, monitoring the vital status and get scolded by the senior doctors...
Mainly because, back then I was in the Obstetrics ward, and taking blood in pregnant mummies are much much easier. Their veins are so engorged, so big that even with eyes closed, you can poke the needle into the right place and blood will be oozing.
But too bad, such a position doesn't exist in the country, although I was pretty convinced I saw one young chap in the Orthopaedic ward early in the morning a few times, just go around taking blood. Hmmm... Now that's something to consider.
A phlebotomist (φλέψ (phleps) = vein, τομός (tomia) = cutting) is a qualified technician trained to draw blood.I'm a blood suckaaaaaaaa! :P
