On the 10-10-10

I thought it's probably same same old same old, just another date in the calendar. So what if it's the 10th day of October in the year 2010? It's just a Sunday. A normal Sunday.

But that's not the case for the organizer of 10-10-10 Fun Run this morning. Apparently, they took into consideration of a runner blogger who suggested a run, and they organized it. 28 bucks for registration fee if I'm not mistaken, which added up to 10. A distance of 5.5km, adding up to 10. Something they want to commemorate the date with. So there we were, running around downtown KL in the morning. Apparently the running event that I joined weren't the only event happening in KL. Nike decided to have a 10km running event too.

When we arrived at 7 in the morning, we saw some 6000 runners clad in apple green Nike shirt, just crossing the cross junction in front of Lot 10. Some of my colleagues joined this other one. While the ones who joined the 10-10-10 Fun Run stood at the side cheering on, there was a major contrast of the apple-green runners as compared to the spectators who were clad in navy blue or orange shirt.

We were flagged off at 820am. The hiatus from running since my last event in Siemens Run really took a toll. Although I did jog to build up the stamina again for the longer distance run next weekend, I just thought I couldn't run fast enough.

I ran, I mean I jogged, for approximately 15 minutes when I took out my phone to check the time. I'm estimating a finishing time of about 40 minutes top in a 5.5km run. But somehow I thought the distance was a bit short. It was barely 9am when I cross the finishing line, clocking a time of less than 30 minutes. That's unexpected!

It was only later when I overheard someone said the actual distance was only 4.3km. -.-" LOL

Nonetheless, I thought it was a good way to start the morning sweating. Not quite sure what Nike runners got, from what I heard, they were given a soft toy upon finishing. We on the other hand, got a gold-plated medal, a Men's Health magazine as well as some vouchers. I thought the vouchers were pretty nice. 30% off Crocs, 200bucks off Leather stuff as well as some others. But at least the Nike runners got a pretty nice shirt. Dry fit innit?

Now that it's done, Mizuno's 10km next weekend!

By the way, on my way back to the car, we walked past a booth selling the medal at 10bucks! Erm... Erm... Erm... *speechless*

yeah, many organisations is taking the opportunity of 10.10.10 to run events and earn more money.. just like 08.08 two years ago, 09.09 last year, and then we'll have 11.11 next year and 12.12 two year later~~
