On Living in the Virtual World

It's not something new, I'm not really that creative, so when I say virtual world, you get the idea of Facebook games or online chatting.

Apparently, what triggered me to bring this up was about this incident that happened a few weeks ago while I was doing my calls with a friend. It was with one of the medical officers that I pretty admired. So we helped out quite a lot, especially since it was a busy night with 5 cases. Plaster of Paris, backslabs, reduction and lots of screaming. No puns intended.

But at 10pm, the partner was all restless asking me to get the medical officer on-call to sign our attendance to the night shift. 2 more cases were still outside the fracture room then. I refused, I really was having fun. So we waited for another hour, when all the cases were done; and when the medical officer asked for our forms of attendance. And we headed back to hostel.

And the partner said, "Die lar... 1 hour late."

I asked, "Study group is it?"

He replied, "No... DOTA. I'm late for one hour. We're playing against the junior, must win, cannot lose."

I was totally speechless.

It wasn't a unusual I suppose. More often than not, we're in one way or another, living in the virtual world ourselves. Those who purposely stayed at home to 'harvest' on Farmville, the addictive Facebook game; those who teamed up to steal their boss's animals on, yet another Facebook games; or basically, those who just go online and routinely clicked on the list of blogs on the favourite list daily just to see what the other people write about that day.

SO. My wondering today, can we actually live in the real world without any contacts with another people via the virtual world?

No offense. I know I'm an internet addict too. LOL

I don't play DOTA, but I enjoy seeing people play them. It's great being a bystander and not be stressed about a game.
