Excitement was building last Friday when I finally decided to follow my friends to Bukit Jalil Indoor Stadium for the quarter finals of Thomas Cup where Malaysia was playing against China. I never thought I would go to a real game, and this was my first.
Left our hostel at 4 after the case conference. It was a grim chance, seeing how long ago since we last had the trophy in our hands, and that we're playing against the defending champion. But seeing that we've made it to the quarter finals, and it's not like we always got the chance of hosting this world-class event; plus the fact that we're still students, we should really grab the chance!
So by the time we reached stadium, it was already fully packed. Lucky us we managed to get a parking nearby. Stopped the engine, locked the door, and off to the ticket collecting counter we went.
Crowds were building. Queues were getting longer as well. Those who already had the tickets in their hands were just hanging outside the stadium before the game starts. But as the time drew closer to the match, supporters headed into the stadium.
The tickets were snatched early before the day. Lucky us we called up using the telephone 2 days before; although the receptionist was pretty rude. But then again, it was the quarter finals, against China too! Who wouldn't be excited about it?
So the match... I'm sure you'd have known the results. We had no chance of fighting back. Our world #1 singles lost out in 2 games. The #1 doubles lost in 2 games as well. When it came to the veteran player Choon Han, 80% of our hopes were gone. But from what I recalled, he played his game well. He slowly picked up his pace, waiting for the opponent to make mistakes. But alas, it wasn't as though the opponent made mistakes all the time. So, Malaysia's journey in Thomas Cup 2010 ended in just 3 sets.
Then again, I guess I really have to be glad that the ticket was all sold out, because at least the players got their fullest support from the people of Malaysia. Indeed, it's only in event like this, we're all united as Malaysians irregardless of race and religion. How harmony!~
Actually...
The tickets were really sold out, and we didn't managed to get any. So we resorted to the nearest McDonald and cheered together with the others there. LOL.
Then again, we tried. We didn't get it. Beh. But the most classic conversation we had was with this guy who was selling this scarf with Malaysia word sewn on it. "20 bucks 20 bucks! Very very cheap!" Then my friend said, "No ticket!" Created an uproar amongst all the people around as well. LOL
