Remember when we were young and sometimes we'd have this nodules underneath our eyelids. Mothers would say we get it because we were being naughty. The boys were peeking the at naked girls. While the girls probably saw some naked penis. And hence, we get those painful nodules at the eye lids.
We were just talking about it the other day at the minor operation theater. It appeared that most of us were brought up the same way! Even the Indians believed that tying this black and white interlacing threads around our fourth finger could make them nodules away.
Funny how myths that we grew up with, somehow got shot down one by one as we learnt about the basis behind.
Anatomically, we've got lots of glands underneath our eyelids, secreting what's probably oil (which also explains why we get eye shits in the morning). So being glands, with open fornices, it's predisposed to infections. Inflammation of these glands would naturally lead to formation of abscess and pus production. And therefore, these kind of painful nodule.
Treatment wise? One of it would be surgery. Incise and curettage.
Innnnterestinnggggg isn't it?
The best of it all, the operation was done while the patient is wide awake, under anesthesia of course. But anesthesia isn't given to the whole body, just the eye. Therefore, you won't feel pain. But having said that, patient is wide awake. Imagine seeing all those sharps coming onto your eyes.
Awesomeeeee. :P

hmmm, i can't remember how i used to get rid of that.. maybe just get some cream from the doctor i guess..

+Ant+
i heard of those stories, but nvr try those threads.
i find the idea of having myself full awake while being 'cut through' very scary lor
bravebear, u should alright. :D
gratitude, i wonder whose eye u wanna poke? LOLS
i saw a beautiful eye with very long eyelashes ... er... minus the boil.. :p
yes, grandma told one.. tie black string round finger..and another way, to take a "beras" to poke the boil.. urghhhh...ouch!!!
beras????!?!?!?! eeww ouch aaaa.... that would be painful. i think using scalpel wont. hahahahahahhaha
Ouch*......It really hurts......>.<
Which is why people, like myself, who have a weak stomach and faint of heart can never go into the medical field. I can not imagine myself cutting up anyone nor poking needles into someone. My daughter had a stye (not sure if spelled correctly) in the summer. It lasted for about a month. Her pediatrician said just warm compression three times daily will help with the healing. I'm not sure if this worked or the Chinese tonic soups my mom cooked to flush the toxins in her body.
yikes! *faint*
hmmmm... maybe at the same time can have the chance to remove those ugly eye bags too? LOL
nicky, got anesthetic, won't hurt. :P
rose belle, stye is basically infection. if her paediatrician said so, i won't question her advice. she's after all a specialist. :)
deeper, need air? :P
pikey, i thought eyebags are cute! erm, not too big one lah. :P
doctors....
so serious until need curettage ar? i tot they just go away on their own one
oh gosh~ i'm gonna freak out if i see something sharp coming towards my eyes :(
passerby, hahahahha. what is THAT suppose to mean?
manglish, some will go away. currettage mostly for chalazion. :D
L2, i suppose most of us would. ;)
Cool! Next life I want be a doctor as well.
Now, I know why nodules grow to my eyelids when I am kids.
I believe that time I never see naked girls for sure! I am Good boy.
(Passing by)I had somewhat a similar surgery, only mine is done in a smaller clinic la. But, haha, yeahh. Similar stuff. I always have this stye. NOW ALSO. Grr, can be annoying at times. Hehe
