On the Home-Baked Cake

April has always been, I'd say, apart from December, the other month that I've always been looking forward to every year. For the past 2 years, the finals fall in the month of April. So while part of me were being overexcited that the birthday's just around the corner, part of me was forcing myself to study for the finals.

This year round, it seems different. Finals wouldn't be near until another 3 months or so. Not that it's a reason for me to slack or anything. But I guess having the 3 months grace between now till then, indirectly the motivation is not there.

And perhaps that was why the excitement over the birthday wasn't as strong as the previous years too.

So it was only when mum called me the day that sis were to come back from the hometown that, I knew she went through the trouble to deliver me the warmth of family despite her having just recovered from the operation that she underwent.

Mum: I baked a cake for you. Your sis will pass to you after she reached KL okay?
Me: Huh? Cake?
Mum: Yeaps. For your birthday ma.
Me: Oh you remember!
Mum: Of course I do. You arrange with your sister when she reach KL, either you pick it up at her place or she'll go to your place.
Me: Sure sure... will let her know.

Not the cake we used to have every year during Chinese New Year. But it was as good. Finished it all in just a couple of days. Didn't want to risk having it in room temperature for too long in case it feeds the fungi...

Marble cheese cake anyone?
