After the curry vermicelli at Ah-Cheng's Laksa in Cineleisure last night...
JL: So what are you?
Me: Hakka...
JL: Ooooh... Hoppoh?
Me: Yeah...
Silence.
JL: I'm a Fukka
Me: A wha??
JL: A Fukka! Fukkien mix with Hakka... I'm a Fukka.
Everyone else laughed. And I thought I heard 'fucker'.
Me: Could have been Hakkien as well no?
JL: Doesn't really sound nice. Fukka sounds better. I'm a Fukka.
JL: Fukchew. Fukkien plus Teochew. Fukchew.
And it sounded to me like "fuck-you" pronounced in the speed of a bullet train. Fook-you.
Silly breeds... I'm a pure-blood. *Wukakaka* And I shall be the mean Draco Malfoy who sneered at the mudbloods. Fukkas and Fukchew. What else have you got? Hakka plus Teochew, and you get Hachew? Sounds like a sneeze to me. Hachooooo. *sniggering*
Just in case you're catching no balls, the Chinese community are made up of different clans. And by clans, I mean dialects. The ancestors of the different clans came from different parts of China. For instance, the Cantonese came from Guang-dong division of China. The Hakkas originated from the Guang-dong region of China too, but geographically different from the towns of the Cantonese's. And so there's the Fukkiens (or rather we call them Hokkien) originated from the Fukkien provcince while the Foochow originated from the Foochow division. At least that was what I understand from the Chinese culture. Hence, with the different parts of China being such a huge country, all the Chinese speaks different native dialects.
For Hakka to be one of the 7 large clans in the entire China, the Hakkas themselves are divided according to villages or cities. Hence you get Hoppoh, Fui-loi, Taipu and who knows what else. The other 6 major dialects, if I don't recall wrongly would be Cantonese, Hokkien, Foochow, Teochew, Hainan and Kwang-xi.
Oooh, and I came across this really interesting thing of the Hakkas. Will do that in the next post. *sniggering*
Fukka!!!
Ps: Post didn't mean to insult anyone. Any hard feelings is not meant on purpose.
