We received a message from the March Birthday Girl last week that she's going to organize a BBQ party at the garden. The Birthday Girl invited a lot of us coursemates as well as some of the dentistry students whom she's close with. The last that we heard, it was going to be huge, roughly 50 of us would be attending the BBQ. *WHOA!* 3 units from the apartment we're staying in, which already brought in about 25 of us, one house from the condominium further up the road consisting roughly 8, the college mates, a few friends from the medical students' hostel as well as some other close friends.
See, we live in an serviced apartment ( or is it condominium? ) where there's 2 towers and 3 blocks of duplex units. The 2 towers were located further in at the gated compound, while the duplex blocks surround the garden. We knew there's the BBQ parlour built in the garden when we first moved in, and were very excited as to have at least one BBQ party before we leave this place. And so we did. So, the birthday party was scheduled to start at 7p.m. But unfortunately, it started to rain. Thunderstorm even. What a dismay! *sniggering* It might even stretch for the whole night if the weather wouldn't want to co-operate! And I suggested that we dine out at some fine restaurant and postpone the BBQ party the following day instead. Right, as if that would happen. 60 attendees!
Anyway, rain stopped around 8. Luckily the girls prepared some dishes in the community hall. Fried vermicelli, curry chicken, coleslaw, tea-flavoured egg, sandwiches, agar desert and fruits. Of course, there's the orange juice Dr. Tan prepared. All the simple dishes were meant to fill up the stomach, since the BBQ is pretty much just for fun really. And Thank God the Birthday Girl and her housemates prepared them delicious dishes, else I would already die of hunger by the time the chicken wings were done. *LMAO*
Lots of cam-whoring were done. I didn't help out with the grilling, or roasting, or whatever verb you're using for the BBQ-ing action. (OMG! Confession of a Lazy Bugger! *LMAO*) Instead, I just walked around and pretended to be busy. Taking photographs I mean. It's a pity though, that the battery ran out fast with flash, even with 2 fully charged batteries, I had to reserve the other battery to make sure there's still enough power to last till the 'cake' ceremony. And sadly, photos turn out to be blurry when the batteries almost died out. Nevertheless, there were enough pics to record the birthday by, I hope.
By 10-ish, it started to drizzle again. We ran into the small shed and cleared the BBQ parlour in time. Quite a number were already back into the house, naming the DotA-freaks, and a few others who were doing some personal stuff. So at least, the shed was still able to cover all of us still in the garden. Two cakes were brought out, and the birthday song were sung. Birthday girl shall turn 42 by midnight, she blew off 6 candles representing that number on the 2 cakes. *LOL* Once the cakes were finished, and that one of the guard did came approached us that we were too noisy, we decided to head back towards our duplex units.
Card games that started earlier in the shed continued in the house. While half were in the 6th floor unit for the DotA games and hanging out watching TV, half were in the 3rd floor with the decks of cards. Interestingly, I picked up Brigde. *grins* I've heard about the game, and read about it somewhere, which the writer was a young guy, and he played with older aunties instead of his peers, for the younger generations thought it was a boring game. It's pretty complicated, considering I've never played the game, and the few of us who know how to play showed us the rules. I've got to say it's pretty interesting, and very fun too! *grins grins*
11-ish, and the gathering dismissed. There's the 2nd session of PBL on Monday. Hateful thing it was. *blergh* But then again, I always thought such gatherings are pretty fun. Bonding closer ties. Or whatever crap you call it. Still, little gatherings such as last night added some spices to the life of us medents. Not sure about the others, but mine for sure.
One last thing, I love my pictures. They're nice, no? *sniggering*
