Neurostuff

It's the second week we're doing central nervous system (CNS) module. The school arranged that Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology stuff be taught first before we go into the subjects we're taking this year - Pathology, Pharmacology, Parasitology and Medical Microbiolgy, in the CNS block I mean. No doubt, neurology stuff are blardy tough. Even trying to read them by your own makes you go nuts. But I guess that's why there are so few neurologist or neuro-surgeons in the university hospital. One of the Physiology lecturers was saying, all the other medical schools were doing CNS over 2 years, and us having it sqeezed into a month, it's plain ridiculous. Sad to say, there are too few neurology guys in the curriculum board, that their voices are not as loud as the cardiology guys or respiratory guys for that matter. That's why cardio block is like, as long as neuro! *faints* Wait... I think it's slightly shorter. But CNS is SUPPOSED to be LONGER! It's so blardy hard! *LMAO*

Anyway, we've had 6 Neurophysiology lectures so far. All of them lecturers are from the Physiology department. We did all the other chapters of Physiology in our first year, so we know most of the lecturers in that department. Being the good students we are, there's the gossips about them lecturers you see, hopefully none of the lecturers stumbled across this blog. *sniggering* Of course there were all those droolings over the 'good' lecturers and the 'not so good' ones. If you know what I mean. But generally, there's just not so much 'good' one in Physiology department compared to the ones in clinicals. [Hint: Lots of them clinician lecturers are do-able] *sniggering* Anyways, the lecturers we get for Neurophysiology are the experienced ones, good ones they are, in terms of knowledge and experience. Sad to say though, they're just not so... attractive. Mind you, I mean they couldn't really get my attention in lectures. I had to force myself to stay awake all the times.

So.. There's this lecturer who came in for Auditory (hearing) lecture today. It was a lecture in the afternoon. Sleepy as hell I was. The proffessor went through the slides and came into this neurology aspect of the hearing, his explanation was plain hilarious. Okay. So... the neuroanatomy. You know. I never liked anatomy. I'm not good in anatomy. So, anyway, in short, this is the pathway. There is a pathway for the transmission of impulse from the ear to the brain. Yeah, that's all. We were shocked. And we all cracked up. I can say like this of course. But if you write that in your exam, you get a good round egg. The laughter continued.

And somehow, as the lecture progressed, he talked about us being 2nd year students, that we should know about some of them basic sciences. I mean, the really basic ones taught even in secondary school. So he said, Yada yada, all these stuff you've learnt before. I'm sure you know about all this already. Like now, you should be know how to sleep with your eyes open. He grasped our attention then, WTH? You know, some animals can sleep with their eyes open right? He deliberately widen his eyes and made the sound of snoring. The entire hall cracked up. And he snored again. Blardy hell! I'm not sure if he was trying to be sarcastic, or was it the weather? *sniggering*

Truthfully though, like I've mentioned, Neurophysiology wasn't as interesting as Neuroanatomy. Lecturers who teach Neuroanatomy aren't at all good-looking, but the school assigned the best that we've got in school, whom one of them used to be a neurosurgeon *salute* while the other would be one of the top proffesors of anatomy in the region. I mean, not that the ones from Physiology wasn't great, like I said, they are all great lecturers. One of them even won some Gold medal at the International conference in Geneva before. Am sure you heard about the organic viagra? *sniggering*

We just so need more McDreamy... Ooooh wait, we DO have 2 McDreamies in the hospital! The ones we approached earlier on to become our supervisor for our elective programme later in May! *grinning* We stayed with the neurologist, not the neurosurgeon though. Bleh. Anyways, neuro stuff has always been in the list for specialization next time, just haven't decide whether I want to go into medicine or surgery.

Now THAT was a joke. Laugh away. It's just a daydream. Me? Neuro? If ever that comes true, I could so die happily. *sniggering*

Just in case you haven't know, McDreamy is the highly scandalous neurosurgeon in the drama series Grey's Anatomy. You should watch. Highly recommended. *LMAO*

Well I did think that Neurology was the hardest rotation we had so far... But it pays off in a great way. I was told that there are only 2 Specialists in Neurosurgeons in Sarawak, and they both earn over 20,000 Ringgit per month. That was 3 years ago, dunno now maybe there's more.

McDreamy? You mean Doctor Sheppard? Haha! I think all medical students watch Gray's Anatomy lah! Even over here in Russia!

i think it's definitely not easy to be McDreamy...

Oh my gosh! Brain. Ooooo. :P

Oddly enough I'm a whiz at neuro :P

But aleckii is right, neurosurgeons are few in number since the years of training can be so long and arduous so their pay is sinfully ( and rightfully ) enormous.

butt: :D McDreamy is cool! :P

jane: lecture hall is the best sleeping place in school haha

aleckii: that's what i heard too! blardy rich! one of the neurosurgeons in kch was from um, consulted him before. HAHA... Grey's a must watch for med student. At least a form of motivation, despite how drastically different life as a doctor in msia is. :P :P :P

zewt: of course it's not easy. it's blardy hard...

adrien: GOT!!! that's if you refer McSteamies to someone 'steamy' and not plastic surgeons. :D

QR: Brain is amazing!

Savante: OMG! You can soooooo teach me! HAHAHAHA....
