For The Hypo- Thing I've Got

One of the many things we used to like being a medical students since our first year was to always observe whether what we read in our textbooks happened to the people around us. It has been an ongoing interests alright, and we're pretty sure we'd need a whole lot of memory in our brains to make sure everything in that 3-inches thick Kumar&Clark Clinical Medicine stay in the brain if we want the passion to keep flamming. Of course, as we read along, we tend to have the habits of checking out which sickness we have, or what KY calls 'self-diagnose'. *LoL*

I for sure, have found one for myself. But it was forgotten for a while after the endocrine block for our Physiology last year, until we're going into the endocrinology block today.

KK: Look! It's your sickness!
Me: Yeap... You still remember!
KK: Of course! You've got so many symptoms showing already!
Me: Quick, get me the thyroxine then...

The slide isn't taken from the lecture today, but somewhat off the net.
(1) I obviously do have cold intolerence, for I've been complaining of cold lately and all the sweater craze.
(2) I was experiencing fatige lately, slept 20 hours last Saturday (I'm ruling out African Sleeping Sickness, I've not been to Africa and not have any [sexual] contacts with other people or received blood transfusion).
(3) I've all these while having dry skin, my face was peeling as if I'm sunburnt, and the sensitive face wash isn't helping much.
(4)
I do have constipation problem on and off, not prolonged but it's recurrent.
(5) This one is obvious, I can definitely gain weight if I take 3 meals a day for 2 days. But thus far I see striation as I've been restricting myself to only 2 meals a day.
(6) And the difficulty in concentrating as well as poor memory, should I say more?

And KK poked me.

Me: What?
KK: Delayed reflex... a sign.
Me: It's pretty much confirmed isn't it?
KK: Yes. Officially.

And so... the clinical progression would be...

*LMAO*

On the side note, I got this pic off another site. Of hyp0- as well as hyperthyroidism. Just to let ya'll check out. :P

Fuyooh. But at least that's easily solved with some L-thyroxine. Imagine being lobotomized. Not easy looking for transplants then :P

You doctors and your hypochondria!

All it needs is some old-fashioned common sense:

1) Could be a personal thing. Or you are cooped up too long in air conditioned rooms.

2) Heard of sleep debt? You're just repaying all the sleep you missed during weekdays.

3) Spent too much time in air-con room. Spend the RM100 on a nice moisturizer rather than a sweater :P

4) Not enough fruits/hydration maybe?

5) This one is interesting. When you try to lose weight by eating fewer meals, you're actually starving your body. In this situation your body will try to conserve all the fats instead of burning them because it thinks you're being starved. It will also reduce yr muscle mass because muscle fibers need more calories to maintain. Finally, when you DO eat, the body will rush to store as much energy as possible in anticipation for the next starvation, thus leading to even easier weight gain.

Trust me, you'll do better by eating balanced meals with lots of unprocessed meats (no sausages, fish balls) and plenty of vegetables.

6) Refer to 5. When the body is "starved", how can it let you devote energy to the brain?
