Bibik, I had my surgical round today, want to know what happend?
I have my own lab coat today, so at least I was at a more comfortable state today. LOL. Anyway, like yesterday, the smart arses decided to walk to the ward first. So to the ward we went. We were sceduled at the Orthopaedic ward. As expected, we're just the bunch of medical students who're still in the pre-clinical years, and thus of little importance to tend to, our doctor in charge came a quarter late.
He didn't know what he was supposed to do with us, there were 20 of us, and it's obviously too much if we were to go to the patients. And it's even more ridiculous for us to barge into the surgical theatre and watch the surgery in progress. So we kids were hushed into the conference room and Dr. R decided to gave us an introduction as to how to take patients history. Right, taking history... How nice...
"Good morning, Sir. I'm Ah Bong, I'm a PRE-Clinical medical students, yes just a PRE... So how are you doing? Fine? Yea goood.... So how old are you? 30, I see... Wanna go out when you're discharged? You sure look delicious... " Muahahaha... I'm wondering if that's going to get me some good whip when I'm officially in my clinical years.
Anyway, the history taking class wasn't that bad. Dr. R exposed us as to how we were to make the patients more comfortable. And he brounght in a real patient for us to train on. Pity that patient though.
"30 year old Indian female, underwent a surgery on the spine. Patient's history recorded that cause of spinal problem due to falling down from an 8 feet staircase. She went to a clinic twice and to a hospital once, on which the later case she was diagnosed with multiple spinal bone fracture. Her legs develop weakness and numbness subsequently and was admitted here as reference from Serdang Hospital. Surgery went successfully and patient is recovering."
Wasn't slightest similar with the ones from Grey's Anatomy was it? Paul is so gonna laugh and complain how much television has influenced all the innocent minds with those so cool scenes. LOL. I know, it's not like she's in a trauma or anything, this patient is literally recovering! God I'm so envious with my housemates who went for their first medical round this morning. They had a Proffesor leading them to the nephrology ward and showed them all sorts of signs and symptoms, which is like in the checklist given to us. Pitting oedema and God knows what else they saw. KK kept on talking how fun it was and how much he actually experienced the clinical atmospere... I so hate him! LOL
Anyway, it's not like I'm angry or anything, I'm just being a kid. I know I know... I'd eventually get sick of rounds after my 1st clinical year in Klang. So why bother what they did today when it's just our first exposure right? LOL
But hey, I did came across some really pretty doctors at the ward while waiting for Dr.R... know what I mean? hehe
5 Jujus:
Yes! Surgical rounds! You mean you didn't get majorly reamed by the MO in charge? Asked a zillion questions and stared at like a lil fool?
:)
Don't worry about learning all the signs and symptoms. You'll see most of them eventually.
no paul nope... we're PRE clinicals, we're not CLINICALs... hehehehe... we're still kids, we know nothing... heheheh
LOL, i got stabbed with words before during my clinical rounds at THONEH. Apparently they are quite skeptical with both theory and skills you have. Been told to detect and outline, not to give full diagnosis at all -.-
huh? wat do u mean cyclo?
err, ophthalmologists stabbed me :(
